Slipped Disc – A Painful Thing

Slipped discs in one’s back is a painful thing. It is something that can simply leave a person in agony in their everyday lives. To put is in easy terms, a slipped disc is when a disc in your back moves to the outer portion of your spine. It causes a problem by putting a lot of pressure on the different layers of the disc and the other areas of the spine and parts of the body that connect to it. There are many different slipped disc symptoms.

The symptoms of a slipped disc are varied and are due to what different structures the slipped disc is compressing and irritating. Many people walk around daily with discs in their backs that are slipped, and there is minimal or no pain. But that has to do with the structures around the disc that can cope with the pressure from the disc.

The symptoms depend of the size of the disc that is slipping and the location in the spine. Some people have the ability to withstand quite a bit of pain, and many do not have that ability. So those who have a slipped disc and cannot tolerate pain well, a slipped disc can be very painful. However, if the disc is small, it may only cause pain in small areas around it.

If the disc slip is big, then there can be a large amount of pain. This pain can extend down to the lower back and into the area around the buttocks. If it is really big, then it can cause pain along the length of a nerve called the sciatic nerve. This pain on the nerve is very intense.

Slipped discs can occur in the part of the spine in the neck. If this happens, then you can have numbness in the arms and shoulders. You can experience pain and numbness in your hands. It is even possible to experience tingling in any or all of these areas. With the pain and tingling in these areas, it is possible to experience weakness in addition.

For slipped discs in the lower back, all of the symptoms that can be felt in the area of the neck, shoulders, arms and hands can be felt in the legs and feet. It is even possible to experience this in the back as well. There are other symptoms that can be experienced in other areas.

The anus and the genitals are other areas that can be affected. What is experienced in these areas is tingling and weakness. Numbness around this area has been reported as well. The pressure from the bulging disc is applied on the nerves that lead to these areas.

With slipped discs, there can be other problems. You can have pain that is felt when you are walking. It is also possible to have experience pain from a slipped disc when you are bending over or raising your arms. Bulging disc and headaches are common with slipped discs. A bulged disc in lower back can cause serious pain even when you are sitting. When experiencing these problems, you will need slipped disc treatment to ease the pain. Slipped disc symptoms are common for many people.
